Yes they got the aesthetic down pat at least from C2020 😂 This is from the original Talsorian RPG
I think the "punk" aesthetic of the genre was strongest in the 80s. Both C2020 and Shadowrun came out within a year of each other.
After that, GITS and Snow Crash (taking cue from Blade Runner) swung the needle all the way to the noir end of the spectrum and the genre lost quite a bit of the rollicking mean streets vibe. After that the genre got even further infusion from the gothic movement which muddied things even further.
